Hi, everyone. Hope you're enjoying this Summer as much as I am, despite the exorbitant heat and humidity (at least, here in Ohio). My daughter and granddaughter are en route for a two-day visit from Indy, so I'm sitting here in anticipation and almost forgot to send this ezine out today!

But I do hope you enjoy it. There is a really good story in the inspiration section, so be sure to catch it, as well as the articles in the feature section and the guest slot, as they are well worth your time.

Oh, and by the way, no one has shown much interest in the weekly contest again, so unless we have a winner this week, it will be gone again next issue. :-)

A Healthier You

All over the world, legal drugs are being abused more than—get this—cocaine, heroin, and ecstasy combined! This is according to the INCB (International Narcotics Control Board)

More people—6.2 million in 2008—were addicted to prescription drugs in the U.S. alone, which means that these legal narcotics surpassed only marijuana in abuse.

Give it Time
by Grace Durfee

I made a big pot of soup this week for a potluck gathering with friends. Making soup is not a process you can rush, but it is well worth the wait. It's not fast food or something you can quickly zap in the microwave. Most recipes call for the soup to simmer for at least an hour so the flavors of the broth, vegetables, and seasonings mellow and merge.

Many soups, such as minestrone, lentil, or mushroom-barley are even better the next day. Having time to sit thickens the texture and intensifies the taste. Making soup is the perfect project for an at-home afternoon. Once all the vegetables are chopped, and the seasonings are added, it doesn't need a lot of tending, but it does need time.

Like soup, good things take time. This hold true for many of the endeavors my coaching clients are involved in: growing a business, writing a book, having a baby, buying a home, getting into shape, finding fulfilling work, developing relationships, and mastering new skills. Most would rather snap their fingers and instantly reach their goal, but it rarely happens that way. Here are some suggestions to make the waiting easier and to facilitate the process:

Hold and share your vision.

Visualize the desired outcome. Create it first in your mind so that you can manifest it in your life. If you aren't sure what you are looking for in, for example, a life partner or new job, you are more likely to settle for less than a desirable match. When you get really clear about what you want, you exponentially increase your chances of getting it.

Make wish lists, collages, or journal entries to help you bring what you want into focus. Once you've nailed down the specifics of what you want, share your vision with others so they can contribute ideas, introductions, advice, referrals, and resources.

Take action.

It's not easy to be patient. Being idle can make the wait feel like an eternity. It feels good to take even small steps toward your goal, whether it's setting up systems to handle more clients for a new business, or preparing a nursery for a baby. Most final outcomes are reached through a number of smaller, incremental steps. Look for opportunities to pave the way for your dream. Recognize yourself for the efforts you are making, even if the reward hasn't yet materialized.

Give something away.

Put the Universal Law of Karma to work for you. When you give with a generous heart, good things always come back to you in return. Clear clutter and donate unwanted items to charity. This has the added benefit of creating space for new things to come into your life.

Contribute to worthy causes. Volunteering your time and expertise is a great way to give when you are looking for a job or wanting to promote a new business. It won't eat into your savings and can yield good visibility and contacts.

Allow yourself to be in process.

If you are focused only on the outcome, you'll miss out on valuable experiences along the way. Some of the best learning takes place in transition. You may be a different person as a result of the change and growth that takes place in the process. Even major setbacks, such as divorce or physical injury, create a strength and resiliency that wasn't there before. A bone, for instance, becomes stronger after healing from a break.

Experiment with adding a few of these strategies to what's in your pot, give it time, and when at last it's time to announce, "Soup's on," sit back and savor the delicious results!

a — Jesus & Lazarus

c — Enoch & Elijah
d — Paul & Methuselah

"Our problem is how to be free from all conditioning. When the mind is completely unconditioned then only can you experience or discover if there is something real or not. A cup is useful only when it is empty; and a mind that is filled with beliefs, with dogmas with assertions, with quotations is really an uncreative mind; it is merely a repetitive mind."

Being Sure

Two Virginia hunters, Bob and Fred, were going on a hunting trip. They get to where they wanted to be and started walking.

After about a half hour of walking, they sit down and take a rest.

Bob says to Fred, "I'm not feeling too good."

Fred says, "Well, we can walk back to the truck.

Bob says, "Yeah, let's do that."

So they start walking. After about 15 minutes, Bob falls over. Fred panics and calls 911.

The operator answers and says, "911, what's your emergency?"

Fred says, "My friend fell over with a heart attack. I think he's dead. What do i do?"

Operator says, "Well, first make sure he's dead."

Fred says, "Okay."

The operator listens and hears a BANG!

Fred gets back on the phone and says, "Okay, he's dead ... now what?"

Because psychopaths can’t feel emotions such as fear, they are well suited to executive decision-making. They can eliminate emotion from weighing the upside and downside of actions; there will be no sleepless nights for them because they have closed a plant and put thousands out of work.

Today's English Lesson

Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. Look for some of these lessons to be repeated, because the mistakes are!

Here is an example of very poor form:

"Can you do that, not me?"

This is much better:

"Can you do that? Not me!"

We'll address the usage issue first, which would call for "I" instead of "me" at the end; however, the above form has been adopted for common usage. It just seems to be more "user friendly." "Not I!" still would be reserved for formal usage.

Note: To test the form of usage, insert the subject before the verb: "I can't" (not "Me can't")!

As to the punctuation used in the cited example, it is wholly wrong! In "Can you do that, not me?" the question falls after "that," NOT after "me"! "Not me" addresses the question, and by putting the question mark at the appropriate place and using an exclamation point after that two-word sentence, emphasis is added effectively and efficiently.

See? Elementary English is VERY simple! You just have to pay attention. Understanding the explanation will prevent you from making ignorant mistakes.

Web Design Tips for Building a Successful Site
by Titus Hoskins

You probably already know the key to making any kind of income from the net is a well designed web site. What most people don't realize your site doesn't have to look perfect or be professionally designed to be successful.

Not by a long shot!

In the final analysis, any site that makes you money is a successful site. From a marketing perspective, any site which brings in an income can be considered a well designed site. Many people can't get their heads around this fact: some of the most basic/ugly sites can be the most profitable. You don't need a perfect site.

Believe me, I know from first-hand experience.

Your site doesn't have to be a design knock-out to earn you money. My first site, which I designed from scratch when I didn't have a clue what a perfect site should be or look like, brings in over 50,000 visitors a month, and Google just upgraded it to a PR6.

All that is not really important; what is important is my site brings in money each and every day! It is a profitable site, it's not pretty, but it works. I earn revenue from Google Adsense, I earn revenue from affiliate sales, and I have even formed partnerships with other major sites and businesses on the Web.

I get more and more companies coming to me each week asking if they can display their products/links on my site. I recently turned down a major fellow Internet marketer, who wanted to put a link on the top of my home page, and that guy makes millions online each year!

Why are they bothering with me and my site?

Because my site brings in traffic that I target and visitors, who buy products and services which those companies are selling. My site is valuable to them. My site can deliver leads, customers, and business to those other third parties. My modest little site is not perfect, but it sells. It has value.

My Most Important Web Design Tip

Here's the main tip or advice I can give anyone starting a new Web business: the only reason my site (any site) has value is because I have targeted certain keywords or keyword phrases with my site. Once these keyword phrases rank high in all the search engines, you get traffic that you've targeting to your site—the kind of traffic which companies would like to have a piece of to sell their products.

Actually, if you do this one action right (get high rankings for your site's profitable in-demand keywords), then your site will earn you money. For example, if you get a top 10 ranking for "cell phones," you will make money, regardless of how good or bad your site is designed!

Of course, this doesn't mean Web design will not play an important role in the success of your site. You should always go for professional graphics, headers, and logos if you can afford them, but you must realize other design elements will play a greater role in the success of your site.

You want a site that is easy to navigate, with all links clearly visible and linking to your home page. You want a site that is easy on the eyes, so keep all fonts and colors even and consistent throughout your site. Organize your content and material in a simple straightforward manner, featuring the one thing most surfers are searching for: information.

Please your visitors and the search engines by covering or discussing only one topic per page. Place a well defined page title at the top, and include your main keyword phrase in your title and description. Feed the spiders, but never forget you're writing for real human beings, the majority of whom will actually have a heart and a pulse!

Design for the SERPs.

Keep your Web copy and writing short, informative, and witty. Some eye candy is dandy as long as you get your point across in the process. If you're selling from your Web site, many professional marketers will suggest you start your marketing strategy not on your site, but in the search engines' descriptions listing your site or page. Keep this in mind when you're writing your page descriptions, and start to pre-sell your potential customers in the MSN, Yahoo, or Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

These search engines, especially Google, will add credibility to your information or offer. This is one design trick or tactic you should be using on your site to increase conversions, if your goal is to sell products or services.

Design for the BIG Picture.

Along those same lines, I believe very few Webmasters have a Big Picture when they're creating or designing their sites. You must look far beyond the actual pages you have uploaded to your Web host ... mainly because you must extend your site well beyond this limited concept.

You must fully understand that your site's real power exists well beyond your Web pages. You must extend the reach of your site to all corners of the Web. You must build links, partnerships, and content into these countless areas of the Web. Use articles, blogs, social networks, viral marketing, directories, related sites, and most of all you must pay attention to all your site's content in the major search engines.

Grasp the Big Picture of your site's design, and keep it in mind at all times as you expand your site and watch it grow. Always have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish with your site's design and point it in that direction. Never forget that your site doesn't have to be perfectly designed to be successful; you just have to get your information across in a frank and friendly manner.

Just give your visitors what they're looking for, and your site will be successful.

Answer to Bible trivia:

In the Bible, there are two men who never die: Enoch and Elijah.

"When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Genesis 5:21-24

"As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind." II Kings 2:11

Inspiration

"You are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine"

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.

They found out that the new baby was going be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in mommy's tummy.

He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen, an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown, Tennessee.

In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, every three, every minute. But serious complications arose during delivery, and Karen found herself in hours of labor.

Would a C-section be required? Finally, after a long struggle, Michael's little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee.

The days inched by. The little girl got worse. The pediatrician had to tell the parents there was very little hope. Be prepared for the worst.

Karen and her husband contacted a local cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed up a special room in their house for their new baby, but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral.

Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. I want to sing to her, he kept saying.

Week two in intensive care looked as if a funeral would come before the week was over.

Michael kept nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care. Karen decided to take Michael whether they liked it or not.

If he didn't see his sister right then, he may never see her alive. She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket.

The head nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed, "Get that kid out of here now. No children are allowed!"

The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the usually mild-mannered lady glared steely-eyed right into the head nurse's face, her lips a firm line.

"He is not leaving until he sings to his sister," she stated. Then Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside.

He gazed at the tiny infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing.

In the pure-hearted voice of a three-year-old, Michael sang: "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray."

Instantly, the baby girl seemed to respond. Her pulse rate began to calm down and become steady.

"Keep on singing, Michael," encouraged Karen with tears in her eyes.

"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."

As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged, strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten's purr.

"Keep on singing, sweetheart."

"The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms."

Michael's little sister began to relax, as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her.

"Keep on singing, Michael."

Tears had now conquered even the face of the bossy head nurse. Karen glowed.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't take my sunshine away."

The next day ... the very next day, the little girl was well enough to go home.

Woman's Day Magazine called it "The Miracle of a Brother's Song."

The medical staff just called it a miracle.

Karen called it a miracle of God's love.

Never give up on the people you love. Love is so incredibly powerful. Life is good.

"The proof of God's presence far outweighs the evidence of His absence."
