The best part is I have not had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night since starting on the cream. On those very rare occasions when I start to feel a little anxious, I get up and put some cream on and go back to sleep. Sometimes I will also take a little Nerve Tonic, which is also very helpful. MOVE PAST LIFE'S CHALLENGES

Like it or not, we all have shortcomings in some areas of our lives. Some of them might be more debilitating then others. Even so, there's almost always a way to work around them and end up finding a gratifying level of success in the given area.
I believe the following example of a friend of mine does a fantastic job illustrating this. I've known my friend since grade school. We attended the same elementary school, as a matter of fact. He was like most kids our age—he loved football and sports. As the years grew so did his love for game (particularly University Of Alabama football).
Nothing really out of the ordinary there; however, my friend is
confined to a wheelchair. Therefore, he didn't really have the
opportunity to participate in organized sports in school. Even so, here's where it gets really interesting.
Because he's so passionate about professional and collegiate sports, he decided to set goals towards attaining a degree in journalism—which is exactly what he did; now he's in a position where he can work towards participating in the field that he's most interested in if he so chooses.
While it's true the sport itself eluded him because of conditions beyond his control, he didn't allow it to stop there. The point of sharing this is not to say if he can do it then you and I can do it. I think that would be oversimplifying it. You see, each of us has our own unique situation in our lives. We have our own comfort zones that, for the most part, we allow to determine our levels of achievement.
Thus it does no good to compare one person's difficulties to another's (except perhaps to gain inspiration from them). Rather, the point is in realizing that, no matter what our own situation may be, we are just as capable of reaching a satisfying level of success as is anyone—no matter what we may find standing in our way.
Often it's how we choose to work around our obstacles that makes all the difference in what we achieve in our lives. In the end things might not turn out exactly as we'd imagined, but more often then not, with enough persistence, things do work out—and in many cases better then we might have originally hoped for.

THE GOLDEN RULE

Some of you may have seen my article on how my Dad started his own automotive parts store and how his timing and product were the reason his business started well. But timing and product aren't all that's important to make or break a business.
When he went into the parts business, it was right after World War II. People didn't have money to go buy new vehicles, so they had to try to repair the ones they had, so it was not hard to find customers to buy the parts.
What WAS hard was finding the parts. Dad had a friend who was in the parts industry who introduced him to a few of the parts manufacturers, but most of the parts manufacturers were not eager to sell to a new business. After all, they already had more business than they could supply. (Wouldn't we all like to be in that position?!!)
So my Dad had to figure a way to get them to sell to him. What did he do? Well, since money was not building in his bank account, he couldn't schmooze them with dinners or gifts. He had to "talk business" to them. He had to show them he was in a town without an automotive parts business—a town that had some good mechanics who had to go out of town to get parts. He had to talk to the owners of the garages and see if they would try him if he could get the parts. That way, he could show the parts manufacturers he had enough business for them to sell to him.
In other words, not only did he have to "sell himself" to the mechanics, he had to also "sell himself" to the parts manufacturers. It took a lot of salesmanship to convince the manufacturers, but finally he did convince a couple of them to push a few extra parts to him. Now, that was nowhere near the number of parts he needed to run a business, but he spread the word around about which parts he had on hand, and mechanics were so desperate for parts, they came by to see.
If one would need a part for a 1945 Ford pickup and Dad didn't have it, he would call other dealers and see if he could make a trade for something he had in stock (aha—joint venturing!). That's how it all started.
He practiced the "golden rule of business"—treat others the way you want to be treated—and told his customers straight out: You buy something from me and you are not satisfied with the quality, I will replace it or refund your money WHETHER OR NOT THE MANUFACTURER HAS A WARRANTY ON THE PRODUCT.
What did that do? That was one of the things that really made the business for him. When my Dad passed away in 1998, I couldn't believe all the people who came up to me at the funeral home to tell me that they would always remember how honest and straght-forward my Dad was and how you knew if you bought from him, you weren't taking any risks at all because he would stand behind everything he sold. Now, talk about branding!
What better thing could ever happen to you than to get a solid reputation like that?! Did it cost him to do that? Every now and then it would, but most people were as honest with him as he was with them, so he didn't get taken advantage of.
There are general principles of business that hold true on or offline. A solid reputation is just one of them.
My Dad always told me—you are as good as your word. If you make a promise, be sure you keep it. My Dad's reputation was stellar—I was very lucky to have such a role model!

WHAT IS AN AMERICAN?
You probably missed it in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper there an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So I just thought I would write to let them know what an American is, so they would know when they found one.
An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.
An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them choose. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American is from the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God-given right of each man and woman to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need. When Afghanistan was overrun by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country. As of the morning of September
11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.
An American does not have to obey the mad ravings of ignorant, ungodly cruel, old men. American men will not be fooled into giving up their lives to kill innocent people, so that these foolish old men may hold onto power.
American women are free to show their beautiful faces to the world, as each of them choose.
An American is free to criticize his government's officials when they are wrong, in his own opinion. Then he is free to replace them, by majority vote.
Americans welcome people from all lands, all cultures, all religions, because they are not afraid. They are not afraid that their history, their religion, their beliefs, will be overrun or forgotten. That is because they know that they are free to hold to their religion, their beliefs, and their history, as each of them choose.
And just as Americans welcome all, they enjoy the best that everyone has to bring, from all over the world. The best science, the best technology, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes.
Americans welcome the best, but they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Many of them were working in the Twin Towers on the morning of September 11, earning a better life for their families.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the world. But in doing so you would just be killing yourself.
Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American. So look around you. You may find more Americans in your land than you thought were there. One day they will rise up and overthrow the old, ignorant, tired tyrants that trouble too many lands. Then those lands too will join the community of free and prosperous nations. And America will welcome them!
