ORGANIC VS. NON-ORGANIC

As promised, I've temporarily suspended publishing personal testimonies in this slot to include a few excerpts from the amazing book that started it all, "Lessons From the Miracle Doctors," by Jon Barron.

The following is from the chapter, "Vitamins, Minerals, and Phytochemicals," and the subchapter entitled, "Organic vs. Non-Organic."

As we've just seen, most of the food sold in our supermarkets is nutritionally compromised. Part of the solution lies in organic foods, which hearken back to the more nutritionally beneficial foods of 50 years ago. Consider the following comparisons between organic and conventionally grown food.

Organic snap beans have 30 times the manganese, 22 times the iron and 23 times the copper of the conventionally grown variety.

Organic cabbage has four times the calcium and four times the potassium of the cabbage you buy in the supermarket.

Organic lettuce is five times higher in calcium, 50 times higher in iron, and 170 times higher in manganese.

Organic tomatoes are 12 times higher in magnesium, 68 times higher in manganese, and almost 2,000 times higher in iron.

And then there's the difference between organic and super organic. Super organic, when you can find it, has, on average, TWICE the nutritional value of standard organic (which, as we've already seen, has several times the food value of conventionally grown food). . . .

REAL WORLD TACTICS—THE HOST WITH THE MOST!
by Charlie Page

One of the first things we hear when we begin our online business is that you HAVE to have a website to make sales. While that is not technically true, it certainly is true for 99.9% of us.

While having a website may be the conventional wisdom (some people have 5, 6, or more!) getting the **right** site for you is no easy matter. There are many factors that will contribute to the success, or lack of success, of any web enterprise.

A business person must carefully consider which products to sell, at what price, to what market, using what sales copy, and more.

One of the big factors is **who** will host your website. You can have the greatest site in the world, full of pretty pictures, and containing copy that makes people fall all over themselves pulling out the old credit card, BUT if your web host is down, you are out of business!

Believe me when I tell you that I know from experience. In August of this year our host had us down over 17 times in a 30-day period. Not down for long, but our site is high traffic. We lost thousands.

Based on that experience, and the experience of others, let me wholeheartedly recommend a website for you visit **today** if you do business via your own website. The link is . . .

http://www.internetseer.com/home/index.xtp

These folks offer a no-cost service that will monitor your site 24/7 and report if it goes down. They send you a weekly report telling you how your hosting company did, and they offer hosting that promises 100% uptime too. This is not an affiliate link, just good info. I will **never** again run a site without their service.

When choosing a web host there are questions that should be answered. The following list is not meant to be comprehensive, but provides some good starting points.

* What is your average uptime in the last 90 days?
* In the last 6 months? In the last one year?
* What is your uptime guarantee?
* Do you pay me for time lost?
* How long have you been in business?
* How many accounts do you put on one server?

Pay attention to that last question. Did you know that some web hosts cram **thousands** of hosting accounts onto one server? Just like airlines that overbook, knowing from experience that some passengers just don't show up, these hosting companies overbook their servers.

This can cause major problems for you if one of your "neighbors" decides to spam or runs some huge script that slows down (or crashes) the entire server.

Don't think this overcrowding is limited to small hosting companies or low-priced vendors. One of the largest hosting companies in the U.S. was recently found to be the chief of sinners in this regard.

We've prepared a resource page to help you shop. We are not affiliates for them, and do not endorse them. We just want to save you the hassle of searching through 2 billion hits on your favorite search engine. Hope this helps.

Here's the link.

http://www.directoryofezines.com/webhosting.htm

In general, there are three types of web hosting companies.

1. Free Hosts

These folks promise you won't pay a dime, and you won't. The question you must ask yourself, however, is "How much is it costing you even though you are not paying hard money?

If your site is littered with banners you don't want, and don't make any money from, then you are paying the value of that space. Even if you have a relatively low visitor rate, this space is valuable. Even more valuable is not offending your visitors with some 'You've Won!' hype flashing in a banner and distracting them from your selling copy.

2. Paid Hosts

This comprises the vast majority of websites you visit. Even after you decide to take the plunge and pay for hosting, there are questions to be answered. Does your host use the latest technology?

At the DOE we wanted to use Brian Garvin's Lightning Track to track ads. This software requires a thing called the "Zend Optimizer." While that sounds fancy, it's really not, and most hosts should have it. When we checked with a large national host, the head of the tech department said he had never even heard of it. Our current host had it installed months before I asked about it, figuring clients would need it.

Almost all paid hosts offer web design templates into which you can plug the words you want to say and have an instant site. These "add water and stir" sites often look similar to other sites (they are templates, after all) but they look good and will work.

Be sure that the host you choose uses the latest versions of PHP, PERL and allows CGI scripting. You will need these things to run your own sequential autoresponders, ad trackers, and more.

3. All in one Hosts

A new breed of web host has entered the scene recently. The "All in one" host is a company that provides everything you need under one roof. Perhaps the best example of this is Ken Evoy's Site Build It. With these services you can literally build a website without knowing a lick of HTML or even knowing what PHP means.

These sites offer everything you need (design, hosting, autoresponders, mini-sites, search engine optimization and more) all under one roof. Of course they cost a bit more, but are a bargain if you compare buying their package against buying these items separately.

One word of warning. In many cases "All in One" services provide fewer features in the modules they offer (like the autoresponders or the tracking) than stand alone products.

You just have to decide which is best for you. If you can live without **all** the whistles and bells, these services get you up and running fast with a minimum of fuss, and your site will look and perform well.

Having your own website is a big step toward success on the Internet. Carefully choosing **who** will host that site should be every bit as important to us as choosing a bank, an attorney, or a merchant account. After all, your web host is on the front line for you every day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Shop carefully . . . choose wisely. I hope this information will help.

A BIBLE RIDDLE

Can you name the man who agreed not to attack a certain city if each person in that city agreed to have one of his eyes poked out?

ANSWER: Nahash, the Ammonite, in Samuel 11:1-2: "Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabeshgilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee. And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel."

ANTI SPAM FANATICS ARE RUINING YOUR BUSINESS!
by Laurie Rogers

Many marketers online are seriously doubting that "Anti- Spam Fanatics" are ruining their businesses. I have a bit of news for you: IF YOU currently hold that "mindset," it is time for a rude awakening! Not only are they killing newsletters and ezines with a variety of filtering software programs, they're also blacklisting domains, ISP's and web hosts.

Don't think so you say? Check out a few of these sites: http://mailwww.cern.ch/spam/SpamDomains.html or http://www.spamhaus.org or this http://mail-abuse.org/ Better yet, go to a search engine and type in "Spam Filters." You will be amazed at how many listings there are. Now what exactly do these sites do?

They collect domain, hosting, and ISP information and BLACKLIST it. For instance, if a domain, ISP, or hosting company has a lot of "spammers" as clients, they'll then put that company on a "blacklist." So that ANY person (guilty or innocent) using that ISP, domain or web host CANNOT send any email whatsoever to certain parties.

Now in case you didn't get that, I'll explain it in a simpler form. Let's say you own domain @xyz.com, and you are trying to send an email to @abc.com, BUT @abc.com uses M.A.P.S (http://mail-abuse.org/) to block out any "spammers" from reaching their clients. Now let's say your web host had a few "spammers" on its servers at one point—guess what? You will NOT be able to send any email to @abc.com!

Did everyone get that? Even if YOU are innocent, YOU are really GUILTY, because of some MORON'S idiocy! YOU are NOW going to pay the price for "anyone" who spammed from your ISP (the bigger they are, the more chance there is of that happening), anyone who spammed from your web host, and—if anyone owned @xyz.com before you did—you also get to "pay the piper" for their actions.

If you use a third party service to mail out your ezine or newsletter and their company is blacklisted, well guess what? Some people just won't be receiving it anymore! I actually found that out, when I used a well known third party ezine delivery service. And upon consulting them about this, I ended up cancelling my account due to the lack of company concern about the situation.

Thinking about registering that domain name? Or are you going to jump on some fantastic web hosting deal? Or are you contemplating switching ISP's for a better rate? Or considering using a third party service for mailing out your ezine? Better think again and do your history on them all, because the Anti-Spam Fanatics ARE making business online a Living NIGHTMARE!

If you have been falsely accused of spamming or are now being blocked because of it, you CAN fight back! Go to: http://www.e-crucible.org and file your complaint, as there is a pending lawsuit against "Anti-Spammers," ISP's, and hosts that utilize these programs. ©2002 Laurie Rogers. INSPIRATION

WORDS FROM PRESIDENT BUSH
ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER

"Our country was founded by great and wise people who were fluent in the language of humility, praise, and petition. Throughout our history, in danger and division, we have always turned to prayer. And our country has been delivered from many serious evils and wrongs because of that prayer. We cannot presume to know every design of our Creator, or to assert a special claim on His favor. Yet, it is important to pause and recognize our help in ages past and our hope for years to come.

The first President to live in the White House arrived with a prayer. In a letter to his wife, written on his second night here, John Adams offered a prayer that Heaven might bless this house and all those who would call it home. One of his successors, Franklin D. Roosevelt, thought enough of that prayer to have it inscribed on a mantlepiece in the State Dining Room, where you can still find it today."

—President George W. Bush
