POWER PHRASES INCREASE YOUR SALES

Simple power phrases stimulate your customer's feelings and trigger an emotional decision to buy from you. You can increase your sales by using power phrases in your web pages, sales letters and other marketing messages.

WHY POWER PHRASES TRIGGER THE BUYING ACTION

A power phrase helps your customers visualize how they will feel when they own your product or use your service. It generates an imagined feeling and motivates your customers to convert that feeling into reality.

Most of your customers make an emotional decision to buy from you. They may look for logical reasons to justify their decision. But their decision to buy is usually an emotional decision instead of a logical one.

Power phrases increase a customer's desire for your product or service and trigger an emotional decision to buy.

HOW TO CREATE A POWER PHRASE

Creating a power phrase is easy. Start by listing some of the major benefits your customers get when they buy from you. Then combine a few highly descriptive action words about one or more of those benefits into a short phrase.

Here are some examples of power phrases used by 3 different types businesses:

** "Fast! Easy! Very Low Cost!" (for a product or service business)

** "I'll help you myself! That's why I can guarantee results." (for a service business)

** "Work you enjoy, more money to spend and more time to spend it." (for a business opportunity offer)

USE HIGH-IMPACT WORDS

Look at the words used in the above 3 power phrases. Many are high-impact words (fast, easy, very low cost, help, guarantee, enjoy, more money, more time). Power phrases use high-impact words to create high-impact statements.

TIP: Use short and clearly understood high-impact words for your power phrases. They create a dramatic word picture in your customer's mind without drawing attention to the actual words you use.

A SERIES OF 3 WORDS OR PHRASES

Here's a special tip based on my personal experience. Create some of your power phrases using a series of 3 words or 3 groups of words. For some reason a series of 3 words or phrases seems to produce a dramatic and memorable image in a customer's mind.

My most effective power phrases usually combine 3 words or 3 groups of words together in a series. For example:

"Save time. Save money. Get immediate results."

"Fast! Easy! Very Low Cost!"

"Enjoy it at home, in the office or in your car"

"Guaranteed on time every time or it's free"

"Power, Performance and Speed"

Use the information in this article to develop power phrases for your products and services. Then include those power phrases in your web pages, sales letters and other marketing and sales messages. They will immediately increase your sales.

Dear Ma and Pa:

Am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Army beats working for Old Man Minch a mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. (!) but am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things—no hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. You got to shave, but it is not bad in warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, beef, ham steak, fried eggplant, pie and regular food. But tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit between two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon, when you get fed.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches," which, the Sgt. says, are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it is not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys all get sore feet and we ride back in trucks. The country is nice, but awful flat.

The Sgt. is like a schoolteacher. He nags some. The Capt. is like the school board. Cols. and Gens. just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none. This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bull's-eye is near as big as a chipmonk and don't move. And it ain't shooting at you, like the Higsett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. you don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellows get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR MAILING LIST AND STAY SANE

It has become a mantra: start an e-zine, get yourself a mailing list, build a relationship with your readers—and sell, sell, sell!

Oh that it were that easy.

There are plenty of good people out there who can give you advice on starting and running your newsletter/e- zine. One of the best is Kate Schultz who started the E-zine University—a great free resource. http://www.ezineuniversity.com

Whatever your subject matter, and however enthusiastic you are, you very quickly come up against the question that we all ask: "How do I build my subscriber list, fast?"

There are lots of ways to build your list. Some work better than others. Over the last 11 weeks I have been building the subscriber list for "BizE-zine" from nothing to over 1,400. It is now growing at a rate of about 200 each week. I'm the first to admit that I'm still a novice, and that my list is hardly earth- shattering, but it IS growing strongly. How am I doing it?

1. Work really hard on the newsletter itself. My first issue took me a lot of time to write and even longer to design (yes, you can design in plain text.) I always keep in mind that I want to be producing a newsletter that I would like to receive myself. And I am very fussy. Initially, all this work was done with no subscribers at all. A real act of faith!

2. Build a simple website which had (has) one principle aim: to encourage people to join the list. www.BizE-zine.com started out pretty much as a two-page sales letter. Since then, the site has expanded considerably to include an ever growing archive, .txt and .pdb (Palm PDA) download files, with even more resources planned. But the basic aim remains the same—get the email address. Traffic to the website has been growing steadily too, but that is another subject.

3. As soon as I had written some articles, I posted them at all the online article archives I could find. In my opinion, the best are:

Incidentally, once you have joined these, you will never have to worry about getting third-party content for your e-zine again—there are lots of great articles posted every day.

The benefit of posting your articles is two-fold: you slowly start to build a reputation, and, when other e- zine publishers use your work, you get loads of free publicity.

It works. I had an article published by a large e-zine just this week, and within an hour of it being sent out I received over 100 new subscribers. My inbox has never been so busy!

4. You can buy subscribers. I have done this as well as everything else, and it certainly helps build numbers. I use http://www.worlwidelists.com and pay 16c per double opted-in subscriber. The drawbacks are the high number of rapid unsubscribes and the lack of effective targeting.

5. Put yourself about. Post at discussion boards, visit newsgroups, send lots of emails—and always include a link to your site.

6. Register your site at as many of the e-zine announcement directories that you can find. There are lots of them, and the list is growing daily. There is a reasonably updated list on my website at

7. A very powerful, and fast way of getting new, targeted subscribers is with SubscriptionRocket.com. I was highly skeptical about this popunder program when I first heard about it, believing it to be just another annoyance that wouldn't perform as promised. Boy, was I wrong! This one is a real winner, and its tiny piece of code now resides on every single page of my website.

SubscriptionRocket.com seems to bring me about 15-20 new subscribers each day. And so far, the quality has been extremely high with several affiliate sales directly attributable to this list almost immediately.

9. Keep at it. Have a strategy in mind and stick to it.

Some days you despair and other days you celebrate. Gradually, you will come to celebrate more and more.

A young man was at the end of his rope—seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer.

"Lord, I can't go on," he said. "I have too heavy a cross to bear."

Upon entering the other room, he saw many crosses; some so large the tops were not visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall.

"I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. The Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in."

When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.
