ANTIOXIDANTS: WHAT ARE THEY & WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?

As promised, I've temporarily suspended publishing personal testimonies in this slot to include a few excerpts from the amazing book that started it all, "Lessons From the Miracle Doctors," by Jon Barron.

"Antioxidants are compounds that render free radicals harmless and stop the chain reaction formation of new free radicals.

"There are three sources of antioxidants.

1—Several metabolic enzymes produced by the body are extremely effective antioxidant scavengers. Unfortunately, the body's ability to produce these enzymes fades dramatically in our late twenties.

2—Many foods and plants provide powerful antioxidants. Among these are: Vitamins E and C, beta carotene, and the proanthocyanidins (including Pycnogenol®).

3—Cutting edge research is continually uncovering new antioxidants."

If you would like to get a free download of Jon Barron's book, "Lessons from the Miracle Doctors," go to:

6 SUREFIRE WAYS TO BEAT THE RECESSION
by Alvin Apple

Enough with the doom and gloom. So the economy is not as strong as we would like it to be. If you decide to curl up into a ball and just accept the worst, then you've already lost. You might as well just close up shop now.

But a downturn in the economy isn't the end of the world. What perpetuates economic dips is the reaction business owners and consumers have to it. People clam up and act like this might be the big one—the end of capitalism as we know it. That attitude is what spawns recession.

As the old saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Those who react to economic downturns with aggression instead of passivity come through with strong, successful businesses and healthy bottom lines.

So don't sit around wringing your hands and worrying about things you have no control over. Do something about the things you do have control over. Launch a new offensive within your business and beat the recession:

1—In a B2B environment, everyone is looking to increase sales. Can your business, product or service help another business generate more revenue? If so, play up that aspect of your business and any prospective customer will clear their schedule to hear what you have to say.

2—Keep a strong marketing campaign going during tough economic times. The fatal mistake most businesses make during a recession is decreasing their marketing and advertising efforts. Statistics have proven time and time again that marketers who increase their spending during a recession experience sustainable long-term gains in market share and profitability.

3—Don't forget the people who made you what you are today. Pay special attention to past customers. They already know what you have to offer and that they are not taking a risk in retaining your services or purchasing from you.

4—Try something new. Are there marketing strategies you always thought you should try, but never got around to it? Are there alternative revenue streams that you would be willing to experiment with? Remember, if what you are currently doing isn't working, you should always try something new rather than throw in the towel.

5—Do whatever it takes to retain every client. During a recession, client retention is key. Provide the best service. Throw in a few extras to make your client's experience memorable. Don't forget to follow up and make sure that your client's experience was more than satisfactory.

6—Network like crazy! Networking is often overlooked as one of the most beneficial forms of promotion. Best of all, it's free, so you don't have to worry about your marketing budget. Anytime you have an opportunity to talk about your business, product or service, do so. Don't be obnoxious, but don't risk missing opportunities to promote yourself either.

Light is thought to be the fastest thing in the universe. It travels 186,000 miles each second. Still it takes about eight minutes for sunlight to travel from the sun to the earth.

TODAY'S CHUCKLE

TEN DOLLARS . . .

Fred and his wife Edna went to the state fair every year. Every year Fred would say, "Edna, I'd like to ride in that there airplane."

And every year Edna would say, "I know Fred, but that airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars."

One year Fred and Edna went to the fair and Fred said, "Edna, I'm 71 years old. If I don't ride that airplane this year I may never get another chance." Edna replied, "Fred that there airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars."

The pilot overheard them and said, "Folks, I'll make you a deal. I'll take you both up for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say one word, I won't charge you, but if you say one word it's ten dollars."

Fred and Edna agreed and up they go. The pilot does all kinds of twists and turns, rolls and dives, but not a word is heard. He does all his tricks over again, but still not a word.

They land and the pilot turns to Fred, "By golly, I did everything I could think of to get you to yell out, but you didn't."

Fred replied, "Well, I was gonna say something when Edna fell out, but ten dollars is ten dollars."

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our savior."

—The Bible, I Timothy 2:1-3 (NIV)

5 WARNING SIGNS OF A SCAM BUSINESS
by Sandra Stammberger

For years now the rush has been on to mine the Internet and find "gold." Just like miners in the old U.S. west, people flock to the Web hoping to strike it rich. Is it possible? Sure it is! However, those miners of old had to watch out for "fool's gold." You—in the days of the Internet—have to watch out for scam businesses.

Most scam business offers have five things in common. Before you decide to invest your hard-earned money in an Internet business, be sure to compare the offer to this list. The following warning signs might very well help you avoid a financial disaster!

1—No Contact Information or Limited Contact Information — Most scam artists don't want you to be able to locate them easily. After all, if you could find them easily, so could the authorities. That's why they often only give an email address (usually from a free provider like Yahoo or Hotmail) and/or a post office box. On the other hand, reputable companies DO want you to be able to contact them quickly and easily. They'll offer several ways . . . telephone, physical address, email, fax, etc.

2—No Verifiable References or Testimonials — Notice I said, "verifiable." Anyone can make up references or testimonials that would make you think a business opportunity is wonderful. But can you verify them? Do they list website addresses or email addresses for the people who supposedly gave the testimonials? Is there a way to contact the satisfied customers? If not . . . if you only see a reference ending with "John D. - California"—beware.

3—Phony Association Information — Many times we take for granted the fact that someone offering a business opportunity is a legitimate company just because a Better Business Bureau or iCop logo is posted on the company's website. Not true! These logos can be simply copied and pasted onto the scam artist's site. There is a way to verify whether the company is a legitimate member. Click the logo. If it goes to a profile of the company (on the BBB or iCop site), you'll know this company is an authentic member of the association.

4—"Make Thousands With No Work On Your Part" — This is the biggest lie on the Internet today. Everyone loves the idea of making thousands of dollars while they sleep. Is it possible? Yes! That part isn't a lie. The statement that it will take no work on your part is the lie. Even if the company gives you a free website, free products to sell for 100% profit, and a free shopping cart, you still have to work—and work hard! How will people find your new website? You'll have to market it. That takes a LOT of work in and of itself. Beware when people tell you that their business opportunities take no effort from you.

5—Rushing You To Make A Decision — I'm not talking about the product sites that offer special discounts if you buy before a specific date. I'm talking about the business opportunity companies that—instead of answering your questions—pressure you to go ahead and buy in. I advise you not to trust anyone who is unwilling to give you the information you need to make a qualified decision. I can almost promise a scam is involved if that is the case.

The bottom line is this: Any company offering legitimate business opportunities will want to talk with you, will want to give you all the information you need, will not give a false appearance of credibility, will help you work through the financial aspects of joining the company, and will have verifiable references that you can contact. Beware of anyone who does not offer these things. By keeping your eyes open for the five warning signs listed above, you can save a lot of trouble and money.

NO WRONG TIME TO SAY THE RIGHT THING
by Steve Goodier

A cartoon depicts a woman shaking hands with her clergyman as she leaves the church. The caption says, "Thank you for the sermon. It was like water to a drowning man." Some compliments are better left unsaid . . .

Isn't it true that words carry with them immense power? Power to build up and power to tear down. Such was the case with the words of Maude, a woman who learned that there is no wrong time to say the right thing.

It was a cold, rainy day in March. Across the room in the millinery department of the store where Maude worked sat Laura, a woman about Maude's age. Other workers did not like Laura; they thought her to be snobbish and aloof. And Maude agreed.

But sweeping the bias from her eyes, she made up her mind to say something kind to Laura. Finally, she managed, "Do you know, Laura, that I've worked in this room with you for several years. And whenever I glance up I see your head silhouetted against the window there behind you. I think you have the prettiest profile and hair that I have ever seen on anybody." Her words were not insincere flattery. She meant it.

Laura looked up and began to cry. "That's the first kind word anybody has ever said to me in all the years I've worked here," she said.

Maude discovered that Laura's aloofness was not due to snobbishness, but shyness. The two became friends. Other workers soon began to include Laura in their activities, and she blossomed like a flower that, for the first time, received adequate sunlight. The right words, spoken in kindness, considerably changed one life.

Never underestimate the power of your words. There is no wrong time to say the right thing. And there is no better time than now.
