Hi, all. Just back from a quick trip to Knoxville, Tennessee. Left at 7:00 pm and arrived at destination at 1:00 am. I drove all the way, as my husband and two brothers-in-law were trying to nap, as they had intended to turn around and drive right back (to bring three different vehicles back to Ohio). It was a tedious drive through the mountains, to say the least. (Thank the Lord that the weather was clear, especially on the Jellico mountain, which tends to be foggy!) Talked hubby into getting a few zzzzzz's, and we got to our motel room at 3:00 am, up at 9:30, and on the road again at 11:30. Had to stop for a nap at a rest area an hour later! I guess all that night driving was harder on me than I thought, as we had to take several breaks en route, and we ended up not arriving home until 7:00 pm. Then we had to take the vehicle that he drove to another destination, and I drove us back again. I crashed again at 9:00 pm (extremely unusual for this nightowl) and slept solidly for nearly twelve hours! These 62-year-old bones told me in no uncertain terms that I'd overdone it! LOL!

In Victorian times, there was an intense fear of being
buried alive. So when someone died, a small hole was
dug from the casket to the surface, then a string was
tied around the dead person's finger, which was then
attached to a small but loud bell that was hung on the
surface of the grave. That way, if someone was buried

My name is Rebecca Calkins, I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and have, since 1966,
when my father moved my mother, my two sisters, and me out here from
Buffalo, New York. I have to say I don't miss the cold and snow.

Can You Really Think and Grow Rich? by Thea Swafford
You've heard it said, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." The fact is that people who have money tend to acquire more and more. People who don't have money seem to lose even that little bit of money that they do have.
Why does this happen? The basic success principle says that, "you become what you think about, most of the time."
Whatever you think about, grows in your reality. You create your entire world by the things you choose to think about and how you choose to think about them.
The wealthy, suc
essful people fill their minds with thoughts, words, pictures and images of wealth, affluence, success, productivity and solutions to problems. These thoughts trigger the part of the brain that makes you more aware of things that you have decided are important to you.
An example of this would be if you decide to invest in the stock market, you will start to see information about the stock market everywhere. Mentions in newspapers and on TV will jump out at you. This information has always been there but now you have conditioned your brain to draw it to your attention.
Where as, poor people think about how bad things are, and being unable to afford things. They think and talk about how little they have, how much things cost and how they wish things could be better, but don't expect it.
Wealthy people grow up thinking about how much they have, how much they want and all the different things they can do to acquire what they desire.
If you are going to become suc
essful, observe what failures do and don't do it.
To be wealthy, model yourself after wealthy people. Study them, read their autobiographies and listen to them when they are interviewed.
How do wealthy people think? What do they read? How do they spend their time? What do they have in common with each other?
[Side bar: I was just reading a book of interviews with several wealthy folks and found it fascinating that, even though they had very different backgrounds and beliefs, each mentioned that they tithed and gave credit to their wealth, in part, to tithing. One fellow even tested it, by not tithing for awhile, and noticed a drop in business and resumed tithing.]
The more you learn of what successful people think and talk about, and model yourself after them, the more quickly you will enjoy the same rewards.
Make a decision today that from now on you will think and talk only about the financial success that you desire. At the same time, refuse to talk or think upon financial problems.
Ask the question, "How can I afford that?" then find the solution, instead of saying, "I can't afford that," when you want or need something that you don't have the money for at the time.
There are two little three-letter words that change your mindset and give altitude to your attitude:
How — How can I get it? How can I achieve it? How can I get from here to where I want to be?
Ask — Ask people that are where you want to be, what you need to do. I have found most people that have achieved suc
ess in a given field are delighted to tell you all about it.

Today's English Lesson
Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue.
Whenever you list things, you use commas. You'll find a difference of opinion as to whether the next-to-last noun (the noun before the "and") requires a comma. ("Apples, oranges, pears, and bananas . . . ")
It's best to use the comma, because sometimes your list will include pairs of things: "For Christmas she wanted books and tapes, peace and love, and for all the world to be happy." If you are in the habit of using a comma before the "and," you'll avoid confusion in sentences like this one.

Cancel Self-Wrecking Resentments by Guy Finley
What's a dark inner dialogue? Just what it sounds like: A negative
tug-of-war in the unseen recesses of your mind where you're the only one
pulling on both ends of the rope. Still more to the point, being in a dark
inner dialogue is finding yourself losing a heated argument when there's no
one else in the room with you!
What causes these dark inner dialogues? Resentment. So, here's a key thought to help you release this self-wrecking inner state: Holding onto some hurt or hatred-over what someone may have done to you in the past-makes you that person's slave in the here and now.
If you're tired of being a slave to a painful relationship out of your past, this study in how to release resentments is sure to bring welcome relief. It is important to understand that resentment is a bitter pill made up of two layers. The first layer is created by our refusal to be self-ruling—saying "yes" when we really want to say "no!" is one good example. Fawning before others for fear of their reprisal is another. Both weak actions breed resentment, because our wish to falsely accommodate compromises our natural need to be self-commanding.
The second layer is resentment's "active" ingredient, the psychological
component that keeps it alive and unwell. This is the dark inner dialogue.
These unconscious conflicts, in dialogue form, play themselves out in our
mind by painfully reenacting various scenes from our past—moments gone by
in which we either know, or sense, we were compromised by our own weakness.
If these inner dialogues were left to themselves as they popped into our
minds, they'd be as powerless to disturb us, as an echo is to change its own
sound. Where we get into trouble, when resentment rules is when we're
unknowingly drawn into these scenes out of our past and find ourselves
interacting with a cast of ghost players! The ensuing mental dialogue is
always a desperate but futile attempt to change what has already been said
and done so that maybe this time around we can come out a winner. One good
example of this kind of dark inner dialogue is giving someone a heated piece
of your mind—when he or she is not around to hear it!
Choosing Your New Direction . . .
Tired of going twelve rounds in routine fight scenes that always turn out
the same? Try this step for the winning solution.
Each time you catch yourself in a dark inner dialogue of any kind, use your
awareness of the conflict it's creating within you as a springboard to help
you leap out of those scary scenes from your past into the safety of the
present moment. Then instead of giving yourself back over to those inner
voices of conflict, remain aware of their beckoning presence while you remain
aware of yourself in the present moment.
No matter how many times you hear in your mind those fighting words that
have always prompted you to jump into that dark dialogue, refuse to join in.
Ground yourself in your awareness of the present moment. The unconscious
resentment responsible for creating heated scenes from the past cannot
follow you into the now, which mean no dark inner dialogue can tag along
either. Why? Because when you're no longer a captive of your own past, you
can recognize its ghost voices as the source of psychic intrusion they
really are.

at you.
The average age of the Infantryman is 19 years. He is a short-haired,
tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society
as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a
beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for
work, and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has
never collected unemployment either.
He's a recent high school graduate; he was probably an average student,
pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten-year-old jalopy, and
has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or
swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to
rock and roll or hip hop or rap or jazz or swing and 155mm Howitzers.
He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home, because he is
working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble
spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a
rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less—in the dark. He can recite to
you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either
one effectively if he must.
He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.
He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march. He
obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit
or individual dignity.
He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears
the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes
forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his
own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty,
he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even
split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low. He
has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his
hands. He can save your life—or take it, because that is his job.
He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still
find ironic humor in it all. He has wept in public and in private for
friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He feels every note of
the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention,
while tempering the burning desire to "square-away" those around him who
haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an
odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be
disrespectful. Just as did his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather,
he is paying the price for our freedom.
Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years. He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.
Continue to pray for peace and the safety of our soldiers, sailors, airmen
and all who serve.
