My name is Jude Wright. I'm a 50-something newly-retired wife, mom to 3, grammy to 5. I have been online "trying" to make a living since 2002. I was, unfortunately, the "newbiest" newbie you ever did see . . . LOL!
This past year, I have improved my income dramatically—some by trial and error, and some from some excellent ebooks that I have purchased. Believe me, I don't buy one unless I believe it's the best! I just can't afford it. I have, of course, found some lemons for sour lemonade, but I have learned. Now that I'm officially retired—as of one week ago—I intend 2004 to be my banner year!
In my spare time (what's that?), I take care of my 75-year old father-in-law's diabetes needs, cross stitch, and, yes, I admit it, I watch American Idol.

Try and Do

Two little words. Unfortunately, they are used together much of the time.
They shouldn't be!
They have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
You try a new dish. Or you try a new program. Or you try a new subscription.
You do things. You do your work. You do your best. You do unto others . . .
Try means to test or to sample something.
Do means to achieve or accomplish something.
So if you are looking at a new income system, do your due diligence on it. Check it out forwards and backwards. Contact the principals of the program. Ask them questions until you've done all you can to assure yourself that this is the program for you . . . that this is the one that can work.
Don't kid yourself. Any program worth its salt is going to require some work . . . some, a lot of work, others not as much.
But once you make up your mind to go for it, stay committed.
Make up your mind to do it . . . and to keep on doing it until you achieve your goals.
Don't look back, and don't second-guess yourself. Look forward as you are working the program. Cheerfully and optimistically institute every new innovation and enhancement that comes down from the creators of the program.
Work with it. Embrace it. Learn all aspects of the program . . . every tool that is available to you.
Above all, don't start complaining that it's not working . . . if you are not working it!
Things come and go on the Internet with lightning speed, and you have to go with something solid and stick with it. You just cannot expect to succeed if you keep jumping around like some rabbit. It just won't happen for you!
Make sure that what you decide upon is something you can be proud of, and whatever you do, don't share it with family and friends until after you have become successful. Family and friends, God love them, are your most troublesome naysayers, because they cannot see themselves doing what you have chosen to do.

Today's English Lesson

Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. Look for some of these lessons to be repeated, because the mistakes are!

I feel as if I keep harping on this one, but it is so common it's nauseating.
I'm talking about "a lot"—get this people: "a lot is two words, not one!
There is an "allot" that is one word, but its meaning is totally different. "Allot" means to measure out, to distribute in portions.
Otherwise, whenever you're referring to a lot of things, "a lot" is one word only!

Is There Still Room For Me?

I'm over at one of my newly discovered and now favorite quick search sites, http://mikes-marketing-tools.com, and I decided to check out the search terms submitted to the search engines within the past 24 hours.
The search limits itself to the top 300 most commonly typed terms (and eliminates any adult stuff which is cool by me).
In just moments the list is generated and I begin to work my way down the list. What I'm keeping my eye open for are terms relevant to what I'm doing online - ezine advertising and ezine publishing. I'm interested in learning what specific marketing terms others online are typing - hey every little bit of knowledge helps.
And the results?
Nary one single word . . . !
Yep, I think it sort of amazed me, too. And then I thought about it a bit more and realized—this was a good thing! Imagine how much room is left for building a business and marketing effectively online.
If you've been online for a while and sometimes find yourself muttering, "Oh the market is just flooded, there's nothing new I can do, create, or build. Everyone's seen this and done that . . ." then think again!
Somewhere I heard that about 400 people discover the internet for the first time about every 20 seconds. Wow! Think about that, every 20 seconds.
Now, they aren't all going to come storming "over here" right away. Most go online to search for new cars, or mortgage rates, or game cheat codes or new music.
But, didn't most of us start there, too?
And then one day something happened, maybe it was signing up to receive that first ezine and wham! before you knew what hit you, you're a marketing fool :)
So don't despair, but do be realistic. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your internet empire. But it can't grow at all if you throw up your hands and walk away.
Persistence and determination and plain common sense.
Use these three friends wisely . . . and keep your eye on those search terms, you never know when or where that next great idea may come from!

The Ten Commandments Expanded

Matthew 5 is one of the hardest chapters in the Bible to live up to. Why? Because it expands the Ten Commandments.
The Lord tells us, in His Own Words: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law (the old Testament) or the prophets (of the old Testament): I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For truly I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:17-18
The rest of the words that Jesus said that I refer to here I'll paraphrase, for brevity's sake.
He goes on to say, for example, regarding His commandment not to kill other people, that He equates being angry with others, if only to the point of verbally attacking each other, the same as killing, and He says that, even before you bring a gift to the altar, you are to make up with that person and be reconciled to him.
My Bible also refers to 1 John 3:15, which says that whoever hates another is a murderer and shall die and never enter heaven.
Jesus then goes on to expand the commandment prohibiting adultery to say that just looking at a woman lustfully equates to adultery. Matthew 5:28. Further, He says that if a person divorces a spouse (except for unfaithfulness) and causes that person to commit adultery—or if one marries a divorced person, that also equates to adultery!
The Lord goes on teaching in this manner all the way through Chapter 7. He covers way too much to go over here, but you need to be particularly aware of one last point He makes. And that is in Matthew 5:43-48.
There He expands upon His commandment to love your neighbor. He says to love your enemies and to bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute you and do you wrong. This is all for the reason that we are to strive to be perfect as He is. And since He makes the sun and the rain to fall equally on the good and the bad, we should do no less.
And He asks if we love those who love us, what sets us apart from the bad, who do likewise?
The conclusion is that we are to love those who do us wrong—of course, we need to enlist His help to do that. We have to remember always that He is pure Love, and we have to learn to love as He does—unconditionally. We are not to get even—He takes care of meting out justice for us all.
Wow, you say, I'll never be able to do all that. Remember, He also said that with men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
And if you read back over this, you will realize that, if you can learn to love enough (be Christ-like), all this not only will be possible, but it will happen most naturally. This should be the goal of all Christians everywhere.
He never "promised us a rose garden," but Love conquers all!
