Good afternoon, everyone . . . it's 3:30 in my town, and it's sooooo hard to get motivated to stay at this computer, because we have been blessed with yet another gorgeous pre-Spring afternoon. I've been going outside and taking deep breaths of this fresh air and basking in the sun. And as soon as I finish today's issue and get it sent out, I plan to jump in the van and head out to do a few errands and just enjoy . . . how about you?

of my time every week . . .

Ad Contest
Results of last issue's ad contest, when the question was: Where are there more inventors per 10,000 people than anywhere else on earth? The answer: Dayton, Ohio! Yes . . . my own hometown! Locals are well awaare that airplanes and cash registers are "homegrown," but not many know that the stepladder was invented right here in 1870? The following also are products of our town: The gas m ask, parachute, heart-lung machine, flip-top can, cellophane tape, parking meters, the black light, fan belts, ethyl gasoline, freon, the inkjet printer, ice cube trays with ejector mechanisms, and the L-C-D! I guess this one was too hard, because no one even submitted an entry!
For our subscribers only: Be first to submit the correct answer to the following question and receive the next available top sponsor ad free. The question:
What is the most common town name in the U.S.?
Send to contest@elfexpressionsezine.com and be sure to include your ad with your entry so that I do not have to contact you separately to get it. Several people have missed out having their ads published, because they did not respond with their ads in before my deadline.

In My Innocence
This is a continuance of an article from last week.
Read the beginning at http://elfexpressionsezine.com
He was preaching to the "itching of their ears." He didn't wish to offend, but the Bible says that offense will come "for My Name's sake." 2 Timothy 4:3 says "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Timothy 3:1, 4-5 says "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come, for men shall be lovers of their own selves . . . unthankful, unholy . . . lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof . . . "
And I noticed something else . . . every week the prayer requests were the same . . . which meant that no one was getting results. To me, that meant that the church had become lukewarm. And what does the Bible say about that? "So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew [vomit] you out of my mouth." -- Revelations 3:16 -- Put another way, when we become lukewarm, it makes our Lord sick!
It was so sad to see this church become weak and anemic. Even more sadly, it has plenty of company.
I realize now that there have been seasons of plenty and seasons of famine in the world of Christianity over the centuries. Of course, there are always "hot pockets" of worshippers on fire for the Lord. But certain periods in the past have seen great revivals of believers, thousands coming to Christ as new believers, huge rashes of the miraculous in healings.
Many ask why all believers are not healed. The Lord Himself gave us the answer to this in His Holy Word, because even Jesus could not heal those in His own home town "because of their unbelief." (Unbelievers get healed because of the grace and mercy of God, because they are not in covenant with Him.)
Try to find an instance anywhere in the Bible where someone asked the Lord for healing and was turned down; there is no such instance. He healed everyone, no exceptions. And He was moved by their faith. He asked them if they believed. He told them that their faith had made them whole. The hand of our Lord is moved by our faith, not by our need. He knows what we need even before we ask.
Why ask, then? Because He commanded us to. Prayer is an act of obedience and respect. It is a small thing that He requires, not a monumental task!
Many wonder if they should pray aloud. And the answer is a resounding yes! Your victory is in your mouth, as someone has said. We are always to follow our Lord’s example. What did He do at the beginning of creation? He spoke everything into existence.
Read the gospel of John. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made." — John 1:1-3
The spoken word is extremely powerful. That’s why we are going to have to give account for every idle word that we speak! Matthew 12:36 — "But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."
Ask yourself, if words were not powerful, why would Jesus have spoken that sentence?
So realize the power of the words you speak, and be careful of what you speak . . . like the old song says, "Accentuate the positive; eliminate the negative . . . "
I'm not sure I've finished this article, but I would appreciate any feedback anyone might have.
Who took the yoke off the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it?
Answer — Hananiah, as found in Jeremiah 28:10 — Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and brake it.

Today's Chuckle
Very seldom do we have a true story for this slot, but this is one!
On July 20, 1969, as commander of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module, Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon.
His first words after stepping on the moon, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind," were televised to Earth and heard by millions. But just before he re-entered the lander, he made the enigmatic remark: "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky." Many people at NASA thought it was a casual remark concerning some rival Soviet Cosmonaut. However, upon checking, there was no Gorsky in either the Russian or American space programs.
Over the years many people questioned Armstrong as to what the "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky" statement meant, but Armstrong always just smiled.
On July 5, 1995, in Tampa Bay, Florida, while answering questions followoing a speech, a reporter brought up the 26-year-old question to Armstrong. This time he finally responded.
Mr. Gorsky had died, and so Neil Armstrong felt he could answer the question. In 1938 when he was a kid in a small Ohio town, he was playing baseball with a friend in the backyard. His friend hit a fly ball, which landed in his neighbor's yard by the bedroom windows.
His neighbors were Mr. and Mrs. Gorsky. As he leaned down to pick up the ball, young Armstrong heard Mrs. Gorsky shouting at Mr. Gorsky. "Sex! You want sex?! You'll get sex when the kid next door walks on the moon!"
If two friends ask you to judge a dispute, don't accept,
for you will lose a friend. If two strangers ask you to
judge a dispute, accept, for you will gain a friend.

Today's English Lesson
Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. Look for some of these lessons to be repeated, because the mistakes are!
A reader urged me to do a lesson on
peak/peek/pique. I believe I've done one before on these, but it's worth another shot!
"Peak" can be either a noun or a verb. As a noun, it refers to the topmost point, such as a mountain peak. As a verb, it means when something has reached its uppermost point, as in "Something has peaked out." And it can refer to someone who has grown thin and sickly, as in "He looks peaked,"
in which case it becomes two syllables, as in "peak-ed."
"Peek" means to sneak a look at something, as in "peek-a-boo!"
"Pique" means to try one's patience to the nth degree, to arouse anger or resentment.
Simple cure for bad breath, which usually originates in the stomach or intestinal tract, where food is incompletely digested because of a deficiency in hydrochloric acid: Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar before meals . . . dilute with water if you like.

We Need Each Other by Steve Goodier
Many living things need each other to survive. If you have ever seen a
Colorado aspen tree, you may have noticed that it does not grow alone.
Aspens are found in clusters, or groves. The reason is that the aspen
sends up new shoots from the roots. In a small grove, all of the trees
may actually be connected by their roots!
Giant California redwood trees may tower 300 feet into the sky. It
would seem that they would require extremely deep roots to anchor them
against strong winds. But we're told that their roots are actually
quite shallow - in order to capture as much surface water as possible.
And they spread in all directions, intertwining with other redwoods.
Locked together in this way, all the trees support each other in wind
and storms. Like the aspen, they never stand alone. They need one
another to survive.
People, too, are connected by a system of roots. We are born to family
and learn early to make friends. We are not meant to survive long
without others. And like the redwood, we need to hold one another up.
When pounded by the sometimes vicious storms of life, we need others
to support and sustain us.
Have you been going it alone? Maybe it's time to let someone else help
hold you up for awhile. Or perhaps someone needs to hang on to you.
Remember all the neat stuff you could get by filling out that little coupon on the back of comic books?
Anyone ever sell Cloverine Brand Salve? You know, they still make that stuff. Remember you got points for selling it and neat prizes with the points? How about seeds? Greeting cards? They worked the same way.
What about plastic bubbles? Remember the tube of goo you squeezed onto the tip of a straw and all those big neat bubbles. How many of you chewed them after they popped? Neat taste, huh? Wonder what that stuff was made of, anyway!
Throw your voice. Be a ventriloquist. Amaze your friends. Yeah, yeah, I sent my dime, too. Couldn't wait for the postman. I was gonna be a real live celebrity. When I opened the envelope, saw that funny little piece of leather, and started reading the instructions—soak in water, press against the roof of your mouth with tongue . . . (how're you gonna talk with your tongue against the roof of your mouth?) Oh well, at least I knew that I wouldn't have to look too far for a dummy.
Old Maid, SlapJack, Authors ... pop that came in glass bottles that you had to take back to the store?
Little LuLu . . . carhops on skates? The Creature From The Black Lagoon?
I've gotten a lot of this stuff from the Bobbaloons site.
