What a glorious day this is! Mid-May, and we have yet to run the a/c! Very unusual for our humid Miami Valley, but most pleasant. Even though my office is in the downtown area of a small town here in the midwestern U.S., plenty of trees, shrubs, greenery, and flowers abound outside my window.

This is one of those days when the joy of the Lord is just welling up inside me, even though it is what we would call an "ordinary" day. But I thank God for ordinary days. To me, there is much to be said for such "routine" days.

Now, lest you think I have been living in a cave somewhere, I realize that this blessed state of affairs for me and "my" world is not the case universally, and I pray for those who are not so blessed. Nonetheless, I praise God for my ordinary days.

Hope you enjoy today's issue.

The Awesome Wonders of God's Earth

Today I'd like to share with you a few tidbits from an amazing book I've come across. It's called "Number in Scripture," by E. W. Bullinger.

The premise, of course, is how our incredible universe is governed by numbers, and these examples are just mind boggling.

The first one is from the vegetable kingdom. "The grains in Indian corn (maize) are set in rows, generally straight, but in some cases spirally. These rows are always arranged in an even number . . . never odd! They range from 8-10-12-14-16 and sometimes as high as 24. But never in 5-7-9-11-13 or any odd number of rows. The even number is permanent. Mr. H. L. Hastings tells of one farmer who looked for 27 years and could not find a "cob" with an odd number of rows.

"Moreover, man appears to be made on what we may call the seven-day principle. In various diseases the seventh, fourteenth, and twenty-first are critical days; and in others seven or fourteen half-days.

"Man's pulse beats on the seven-day principle . . . for six days out of seven it beats faster in the morning than in the evening, while on the seventh day it beats slower. Thus, the number seven is stamped upon physiology, and he is thus admonished to rest one day in seven. He cannot violate this law with impunity, for it is interwoven with his very being . . . If he rests not according to the Divine law, he will, sooner or later, be compelled to "keep his sabbaths," and the rest which he would not take at regular intervals, at God's command, he has to take at the command all at once!"

Bullinger then moved on to chemistry, which he states "is worthy of the name Science. Here are no theories and hypotheses, which deprive other so-called sciences of all title to the name . . . Chemistry, for example, is not like geology, whose old theories are constantly being superseded by new ones." He says that, although new truths in chemistry are constantly being discovered, the "old" truths that we have already discovered in chemistry are not superseded or outdated.

Now this is what I found so astounding about his observations pertaining to chemistry:

"All the elements when magnetized fall into two classes. One class immediately ranges itself east and west, at right angles to the line of magnetic force (which is north and south), and is hence called Diamagnetic (i.e., through or across the magnet); while the other immediately ranges itself by the side of and parallel to the magnetic pole (i.e., north and south), and is called Paramagnetic (i.e., by the side of the magnet)."

Is God awesome, or what?

Today's English Lesson

Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. Look for some of these lessons to be repeated, because the mistakes are!

Let's have a vocabulary lesson today. You know, those words that you often see but don't really know, and you might think you know them, as their meaning many times may be inferred from the context . . . but when you see them out of context, you just don't have a clue . . .

I suspect that "aleatory" may be just such a word. It's not all that common, but it's nice to learn something every day anyway.

"Aleatory" is an adjective that describes a person or a condition that is unpredictable.

This is dictionary.com's take on "aleatory":

Dependent on chance, luck, or an uncertain outcome. Example — an aleatory contract between an oil prospector and a landowner.

Of or characterized by gambling: aleatory contests. also a·le·a·to·ric

In music — Using or consisting of sounds to be chosen by the performer or left to chance; indeterminate. Example — An object placed inside the piano added an aleatory element to the piece.

Internet Marketing—The Great Missing Secret Doesn't Exist
by Larry Blenn

I'd like to take a few minutes of your time to discuss Internet marketing. If you are new to the business, then you may have already become overwhelmed by all of the hype and sales pitches. Maybe you have been searching for that one secret that will set you free from your job and put you on a career path of your own.

I have been a successful Internet marketer for two years now, and I was once a lot like you. I spent thousands of dollars on ebooks and training manuals. I paid thousands more to take Internet coaching courses. I read every article, every blog, every book I could find on the subject.

It’s funny that most people will buy a product that they think will be the answer to their prayers, only to forget about it a month later, and then start the cycle all over again buying more books, taking more courses, and on and on.

I'm not pointing fingers—because I did exactly the same thing over and over again. I can't tell you how much money I lost on "Get Rich Quick Scams." Now, I'm not a stupid person. I desired to build my dreams just like everyone else.

It wasn’t until I came to the realization that trying to do it all alone simply doesn’t work. Some of the greatest minds in human history did great things, because they surrounded themselves with other great people.

Take Henry Ford, for example. Ford was an under-educated man who had nothing when he started out. But Ford surrounded himself with a group of people that he believed in. When Ford was building the first V-8 engine, it took his engineers over a year to come up with a design that worked. He never gave up on his idea, even when the engineers said it could not be done.

My point is that too many people think they will stumble on some great secret that only they will know, and they will guard it with their lives. They will be the only ones who hold some special key, and they alone will market this secret without giving away the actual secret. All this thinking leads to disappointment, because there is no secret.

I built my company by believing in people as Henry Ford did. I don’t hold some great secret. I surrounded myself with like-minded people, and together we built a wonderful Internet company helping people to get started in the Internet business. We believed from the beginning that we would succeed, and two years later our company has become not just a source of income—but also a source of pride.

Why would I try to hide some secret and then market it to you, when I could show you how to be your own marketer and let you do your own thing? There is plenty to go around. We do not live in a closed society. Some of my best clients come from overseas ventures. If you stop thinking locally and focus globally, your world will open up new frontiers for you.

Deck of Cards

It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't been heard.

The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week.

As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.

Just then an army sergeant came in and said, "Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?"

The soldier replied, "I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord."

The sergeant said, "Looks to me like you're going to play cards."

The soldier said, "No, sir. You see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country, I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards."

The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?"

"You see the Ace, Sergeant? It reminds me that there is only one God.

The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments.

The Three represents the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.

The Four stands for the four gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Five is for the five virgins; there were ten but only five of them were glorified.

The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and the Earth.

The Seven is for the day God rested after making His creation.

The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives—the eight people God spared from the flood that destroyed the earth.

The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten, but nine never thanked Him.

The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone.

The Jack is a reminder of Satan, one of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the joker of eternal hell.

The Queen stands for the virgin, Mary.

The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings.

When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year.

There are a total of 52 cards in a deck; each is a week—52 weeks in a year.

The four suits represent the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Each suit has thirteen cards—there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter.

So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards, and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for."

The sergeant just stood there. After a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?"

Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are being sent away, putting their lives on the line.
