Happy Tuesday, everyone! With this issue we're bringing back the feature, "Subscriber in the Spotlight," which means that any subscriber is entitled to send in a bio for us to get to know each other better. Length should be within reason, to include who you are, what you do, about your family, hobbies, background, location, etc. Just don't make it sound like an ad, although you may mention your email address and/or website.

And don't miss the tidbits in this issues "A Healthier You" feature. I'm always after my husband to cut down on his huge coffee drinking habit. After this, I'll have to let up on him! :-)

Ad Contest

Results of last issue's ad contest, when the question was — What do people who suffer from blepharospasms [blef-a-ro-spaz-m] exhibit? The answer — People who suffer from blepharospasms exhibit uncontrollable winking. No one bothered to enter! So I've swapped ads with Terri Seymour this week . . . see her ad above.

For our subscribers only: Be first to submit the correct answer to the following question and receive the next available top sponsor ad free. So answer this, and we'll see if we get any participation this week:

What is the only word in the English language that has three consecutive sets of double letters?

Send to contest@elfexpressionsezine.com and be sure to include your ad with your entry so that I do not have to contact you separately to get it. Several people have missed out having their ads published, because they did not respond with their ads in before my deadline.

A Healthier You

Did You Know . . . ?

If just ten percent of adults in the U.S. walked on a regular basis, we'd save $5.6 billion in heart disease health care costs annually?

Although 57% of family physicians know the cardiovascular benefits of fish oil, only 17% recommend it regularly?

Multivitamins increase fertility in women trying to get pregnant?

Exercising just thirty minutes a day cuts in half the risk of catching a cold in post-menopausal women?

Continuous positive airway pressure (deep breathing?) improved cognitive function in a study of people with Alzheimer's?

Drinking lots of coffee protects against coronary artery disease?!

Germans and the French work about 25% fewer hours per year than Americans?

According to a large British survey, regular exercise, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and avoiding smoking gives 45- to 79-year-olds the life expectancy of someone eleven years younger?

Eating lots of vegetables (3 servings/day) slows memory loss by forty percent in people over 65?

More than 20,000 U.S. kds are treated in E.R.s for shopping cart-related injuries each year?!

The above was taken from the latest Health & Healing newsletter by Dr. Julian Whitaker.

It is better to deserve honors and not have them

And now . . . meet Vicki Reynolds . . .

Rita flooded our town, Delcambre, Louisiana, just after Katrina. You don't hear much about us on the news. We have been too busy cleaning up and rebuilding our lives and homes.

We had about four inches of water in our house. I was crushed. Then I saw the rest of the town. (We are about a mile from the center of town.) We were lucky. So many lost everything. Not only water in their homes, but two to five feet of mud.

It was five to ten days before the water level went down. The mud turned to muck and dirt. The lights are still low around Delcambre. About half of around 800 homes are up and running. We are a small town.

I would go through a hurricane every week like Miss Rita to bring me back to that day . . .

Our daughter, Rebecca, 22, was safely at home in Lafayette, Louisiana, with J.P. (our soon to be son-in-law!?). Jason, 20, (elder of the twins) was in Texas with in-laws. Brandon (younger twin) and Kevin, 18, were with dad and mom . . .

Little did we know . . . about six weeks later, on November 13, 2005, our Brandon would leave us. He was the wild child, always living on the edge. Brandon Bade Reynolds died from an overdose of drugs. I woke to find him on the couch just outside my bedroom as he was passing that morning. His twin brother and I tried C.P.R. till the paramedics arrived, but it was too late. We miss him so much! His My Space handle is brandonbadereynolds. Check it out.

His twin brother and I were sick with a throat infection during the week he left us. The day after Thanksgiving I had an emergency trek due to a staph infection taking advantage of my strep infection. Yadda, yadda, yadda . . . We're all okay now. Another day.

Miracles—They Still Happen Today!

Was watching television recently when T. L. Osborn and his wife, Daisy, came on telling about a mother who had brought her little boy to one of their healing crusades, somewhere in India, I believe.

Anyway, the little boy had no eyes. Not even sockets. Nothing.

But the mother believed that our Lord could change that.

The mother began saying that she could see little pea-like bulges, then little slits, and when others looked closer they could see them also.

It wasn't long until the boy began seeing things through those slits, even though he still had only the beginnings of eye sockets, until at last he could see well.

Everyone thought that that was the end of the story. It wasn't.

The next day a crowd gathered outside the hotel room of the Osborns with much commotion, and someone told them that that same woman and her little boy were there and to come and see.

The little boy had eyes wide open, bright blue and beautiful as any they had ever seen!

To those who dispute that miracles still happen today, please show me in the Bible where the cut-off date was . . . and then explain to me the who, why, and how of that little boy's eyes.

To those who say that faith healing is mass hypnotism or hysteria, how do you explain that little boy's eyes becoming normal?

Miracles happen every day around us. Small, quiet miracles that no one hears about. I know. They've happened to me . . . and to my husband.

I have had a few healings . . . he has had many.

Then, again, he was reared to believe in miracles. I was not. He's been a Christian all his life. I was not baptized into Christianity until 1989.

If you need a miracle of healing, you first have to believe that the Lord is willing to heal you . . . whom did he ever turn down? Then you have to believe that the Lord is able . . . He's God, after all, isn't he? He made everything, didn't he? If He made you, He certainly knows how to restore you good as new, doesn't He?

Finally, you have to accept the fact that He has already paid the price for your healing . . . and that it already has taken place in the spiritual dimension . . . all you have to do is to reach out and accept it . . . receive it today in Jesus' Name.

You do that by walking by faith, not by sight. You have to speak of it as already having been accomplished. Remember: Faith does not deny fact; faith changes fact. Faith is activated by the spoken Word. The Lord spoke everything into existence.

Out of the mouth speaks the abundance of the heart. At the heart of man is what he believes. So if you really and truly believe that God is willing, able, and already has accomplished your healing, start speaking that belief out of your heart through your mouth. Faith comes by hearing. And when you speak and hear yourself speak, that is just one more way to receive confirmation of your faith.

To walk on water, you first have to get out of the boat!

Don't Mensa Your Words

The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

This past year's winners:

1 — Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

2 — Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

3 — Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

4 — Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

5 — Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

6 — Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

7 — Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

8 — Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

9 — Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

10 — Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

11 — Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

12 — Glibido: All talk and no action.

13 — Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

14 — Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

15 — Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

16 — Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

Nearly all men die of their medicines,
not of their diseases.

Today's English Lesson

Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. Look for some of these lessons to be repeated, because the mistakes are!

This one concerns the misuse of "proceeding" and "preceding." Now listen up!

"Proceeding" can be a noun or a verb. Used as a noun, it is an event, such as in a legal proceeding. This is the root word of "procession." Used as a verb, it means going forward with something, as in: "We were proceeding up the gangplank," or "He proceeded to take off his coat."

"Preceding" means coming or going before, as in: The preceding sentence describes the erroneous use of this word. This is a form of the root word, "precedent," as used in legal terminology, viz: setting a precedent.

7 Powerful Tips on Creating Great Content for your Website
by Jan Peterson

So what is all the talk about having a lot of "content" on my website? And what is "content" exactly? And how will it help my business grow and prosper? I get these questions from my internet students all the time. Let me say this . . . Having a lot of great content is one of the key ingredients to those websites that are successful and profitable.

Once I explain the value of content to my students, they almost always chime back with "But I can't write!" Never fear, there is always an answer for the creative mind.

5 Dynamite Ways to Live Your Dream Now!
by David Breslow

"I'm a big fan of dreams. Unfortunately, dreams are our first casualty in life—people seem to give them up quicker than anything, for a 'reality.'" —Kevin Costner

Did you ever say to yourself, "Someday, I'm going to . . . " and yet "someday" never seems to arrive?

Dreams really are the first casualty in life, because we give them up based on some past "reality." What do you really want? Do you want to learn how to play a musical instrument, take an acting class, make more money, improve a skill, or finish a book you've been putting off?

We all have dreams, even if they seem buried within us, and we don't notice the flame anymore. Too often we allow our failures and near failures from the past to become our current reality, and it seems our dreams are out of reach. They are not.

We know we've allowed the past to dictate our present when we think or say things like, "I don't know if this will work" or "I can't really do this. I've tried before, and it didn't work." These are the so-called past "realities" we've allowed to interfere with our present and our future.

If Jim Carrey believed his past was the measuring stick, he would have never been paid $15 million to act in a film. If Sylvester Stallone believed in his past "reality," Rocky would have never been made. Look at anyone you believe is successful, and you will find that their dreams were not based on some past "reality," or they would have been dropped long ago.

Here are five great strategies to turn your dreams into reality!

1 — Be Clear.

Any dream requires us to be crystal clear in our vision. What do you really want? Clear visions lead to clear choices, and the majority of my clients are not clear about what they want. They think they are but soon discover they are not. "Make more money" or "Being happier" are not clear desires. Be clear on the amount of money you want, the type of business you want, how you will serve your clients, the specific actions that make you happy, and so on.

2 — See it as an established fact.

My clients find this step to be somewhat challenging. Their logical minds step in and think, "How can I see it as real if it hasn't happened yet?"

Dreams are the ultimate use of human imagination at its best. See your dream as an established fact, even though it has not materialized yet. The body does not know the difference between imagination and reality, and if you imagine your dream as already accomplished, your body will experience it that way, and it will propel you to think, say, and do things in accordance with it.

Jim Carrey wrote himself a $10 million check for "acting services rendered" months before he was actually offered that amount. Jack Nicklaus saw every shot before he hit it, and Donald Trump sees a casino on a plot of land before it actually exists.

3 — Feel the passion.

This is a crucial element in the process. Feelings are stronger than the intellect, and when you add "feeling power" to your images, you add a tremendous force toward the accomplishment of your dream.

Can you feel how good it feels to accomplish your dream? Imagine yourself earning the money you desire, running a successful business, seeing how your product or service helps customers, traveling, being healthy and happy, building relationships, etc. Generate the warm, powerful feelings that your dream triggers within you and feel it.

4 — Bounce forward.

"Bad times have a scientific value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss." —Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is inevitable that the path toward your dream will be filled with ups and downs. You will encounter disappointments and nay-sayers along the way. However, these are all opportunities to clarify and enhance your dream. As Emerson wrote, "These are occasions a good learner would not miss." Use these moments as lessons and indicators that will help you bolster your dream even more.

5 — Act every day.

"My results today aren't as important as the seeds I cultivate for tomorrow." —Anonymous

Dreams require daily cultivation. Nurture your dream by paying attention to it and nourishing it every day. This means going through steps 1–4 each day and following up with action. Make contact with those who can help support your dream. Make the call, take the action, and follow through every day.

In addition, allow others to support you on your journey. As you envision and see your dream accomplished, you will draw the people and situations to you who can support it.

Inspiration

A Daily Dose of Inspiration
by Arleen M. Kaptur

Inspiration—where does it come from and how do you get it when you want it? This age-old question highlights a problem that plagues those whose life work revolves around ideas, new concepts, themes, or subject matter.

Take writing, for example. If you don't have ideas, then what do you write about? Of course, life happenings, news articles, and world events supply subjects for a lot that is written.

If, however, you do not deal with "news" per se, then where do you stand? Well, ideas are there, all around you and in everything you do. For example, your family, people you know, or mere brief encounters are food for thought and can produce a myriad of ideas and suggestions for topics.

Talking to people, reading a magazine, or a newspaper will light up a little bulb that may produce a time-worthy article, or even your next novel. Even the simple act of taking a walk allows you the pleasure of opening up a storehouse of possibilities.

In essence, everything you do is a possibility—every person you meet, every activity you engage in, and even doing absolutely nothing will inspire, enlighten and give you a storehouse of ideas.

So, what is the catch to your cornucopia of subject matter? You must be open. You must quiet your mind, your worries, your everyday problems, and let the ideas flow in. Take the time daily, and open your mind, heart, and even your soul to the vast enlightenments that are a part of each and every day. In reality, there is never a day that is closed to new ideas, insights, or perspectives.

No matter what your personal or business life has in store for you each day, don't limit yourself to these "daily occurrences." If you don't train yourself to take notice of everything around you, a lack of ideas will soon be the malady of the day.

Just think of it—there is wonder in the warmth of sunshine, a million stories in a big city train station, and a poem is just resting in the beauty of nature.

Thoughts do have one bad habit though. They will not come to you if you are not receptive. They don't open your mind for you—they just stroll in if the door is open.

So put out that welcome mat—and let everyday life supply you with its wonder and its magic supply of ideas. You can pick and choose, but don't let a day go by that life itself is not allowed entry. If you do close the door, you will never know what great literary achievements could have surfaced on the day you decided you were too busy to bother.

Take each day as a new adventure, a clean slate, a storehouse of knowledge and wisdom. Enjoy!
