Hi, readers.  Boy, am I excited this week!  It seems that my now good friend, Vern Anderson, must have just fallen out of heaven, sent as an angel to help me with a problem I've been struggling with for many weeks now—how to upload my website to give my readers the option to read this ezine on the internet, instead of by email only.  Vern has done one fantastic job on this—and I know he must have spent a lot of his valuable time, yet he refuses to take one penny. He truly is one of the kindest people I've met yet on the 'net.  Just go to the site and see for yourself: 'elfexpressionsezine.com Also, please visit Vern's site at lvanderson.com.  You'll be glad you did!

From Smith Wigglesworth in "Faith that Prevails" —

A man gave this remarkable testimony concerning the Word:

"Never compare this Book with other books. Comparisons are dangerous. Never think or never say that this Book contains the Word of God. It IS the Word of God. It is supernatural in origin, eternal in duration, inexpressible in value, infinite in scope, regenerative in power, infallible in authority, universal in interest, personal in application, inspired in totality.
Read it through. Write it down. Pray it in. Work it out. And then pass it on."

The two hardest commandments for Christians to live by:

Jesus said . . . "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:37-40

My name is Donna Wildermuth, and I'm a newbie to the marketing side of the Internet. I'd like to be able to retire in six and a half years, and learning how to make some additional income on the Internet would help toward retirement.

I married a wonderful guy a little over two years ago who's a computer tech, so I now have my own computer. I love it . . . and to think, at one time I thought I had no use for a personal computer. He's even set up a network so we can both be on line at the same time!

My cat, Squeeky, is old, fat, and mean . . . except to me. She wants lots of loving, but on her time schedule.

My dream is to retire in six and a half years and that we move to a small (and I do mean small) town. I'm tired of the rat-race in the metropolitan area where we live. We live in northern Virginia across the river from Washington, DC. I have lived here close to twenty years, having moved up here from Florida. (I was crazy. Most people move south, and I moved north . . . but the rest of my family had moved up here).

My husband is a small plane pilot, so he wishes to be close to a small airport where he can keep his plane.

Our other requirements will be good Internet service, library, several different grocery stores, a good church, and friendly people. And it must be on the east coast so we can be near our families. Anyone have any suggestions?

FEATURE ARTICLE

The Secret to a Prosperous Life, Online or Off
Part 2

Ok, readers—two issues ago I began sharing with you the saga of my online experiences and my quest for the ever elusive cash carrot.

My next discovery/conclusion was that, if I'm ever to succeed in accomplishing my income goals online (or off line, for that matter), I need to first of all decide EXACTLY what I want out of life and what kind of income I'm trying to establish to fulfill those dreams, so that I can conjure up a concrete mental picture of it.

You know, there is a story in one of my very favorite books that I mentioned a couple of issues back. (For those of you who missed my list of favorite books and would like to have it, just visit the archives at http://www.elfexpressionsezine.com)

In "Riches Within Your Reach," Robert Collier tells about a certain woman who had lost her job through no fault of her own. A widow, she was the sole support of her three children and herself, and try as she might, she'd found it impossible to obtain gainful employment. She was nearing the end of her rope, her money was about to run out, and the landlord was threatening eviction.

One day as she set out to look for a job, she happened to stop by a magazine stand, and her eye was caught by a title about "treasure-mapping" for success and supply. She was led to buy the magazine, but instead of looking for work that day, she went home (something totally illogical, which we'll talk about another time) and devoured the entire magazine—that attracting article in particular.

Then she dug out a bunch of old papers and set to work to put together a treasure map—so many things came to her mind to put on it—first, the little cottage at the edge of town, then the little dress and millinery shop she'd always longed for, then a car—and in that cottage would be a piano for the girls—and a yard in the back where she could grow flowers—she worked all day and cut pictures and words and sentences out of papers and magazines—all connected with the idea of success and abundance.

She worked and worked on her treasure map, carefully placing in the middle of it a picture of a little storeroom, underneath which she pasted the words "Betty's Style Shop" and pictures of fashionable hats and dresses. Throughout the treasure map she inserted little mottoes and sayings, all carrying out the idea of success, abundance, happiness, and harmony, and she was getting more excited all the while.

She pasted everything onto a large sheet of posterboard and began to FEEL herself living in the cottage and working in the little dress shop. She became completely enthralled with her project and tacked the poster on the wall of her bedroom right in front of the bed, so that it was the first thing she saw in the morning and the last thing at night.

She vividly SAW herself living her dream: she and the children laughing and talking in the cottage, arranging the furniture and putting up curtains; she'd PICTURE her daughters at the piano singing and playing; she would SEE her son sitting in the little library with books and papers all around him; she would SEE herself walking around her shop as people came and went, buying her merchandise, paying her for it, and leaving happy.

Bottom line, folks, she really GOT INTO IT!!!!

Gradually, she began to understand that the treasure map was but the means of impressing upon her subconscious mind the pattern from which to build the conditions of success and harmony into her life.

And she did something else—something most of us fail to do—she began praising and thanking God that her dreams were ALREADY REALITY! Whoa!

Stop right there, you say—isn't this just living in some sort of fantasy world?

NO! Because that's how faith and prayer work! Otherwise, where would faith be? There would be no need for it. You have ABSOLUTELY GOT TO BELIEVE that your dreams have already been accomplished in the spiritual dimension. Then HOLD ONTO THAT BELIEF like a guy who's just slipped over the side of a cliff and has grabbed onto a tree root. Sure it's painful; sure it's scary; sure there's no VISIBLE help in sight. But would you rather opt for the alternative? As long as you hold on, you still have hope!

Well, this is getting a little long, so we'll continue it next week . . . stay tuned!

TODAY'S CHUCKLE

There was a world famous painter who, in the prime of her career, started losing her eyesight. Fearful that she might lose her life as a painter, she went to see the best eye surgeon in the world. After several weeks of delicate surgery and therapy, her eyesight was restored.

The painter was so grateful that she decided to show her gratitude by repainting the doctor's office. Part of her work included painting a gigantic eye on one wall. When she had finished her work, she held a press conference to unveil her latest work of art: the doctor's office.

During the press conference, one reporter noticed the eye on the wall, and asked the doctor, "What was your first reaction upon seeing your newly painted office, especially that large eye on the wall?"

To this, the eye doctor responded, "I said to myself 'Thank the Lord, I'm not a gynecologist.'"

TODAY'S ENGLISH LESSON

Seeing the same elementary mistakes over and over again has prompted this publisher to write an English lesson each issue. This one concerns the misuse of "then" and "than." It is hard to believe that people don't know the difference between these two words. But we have to assume that it's all part of the dumbing-down-of-America syndrome so evident today.

"Then" can mean

  1. a point in time OR it can mean
  2. a point in a sequence (instead of the word "next") OR it can mean
  3. a contingency, as in: "If such-and-such happens, THEN . . . " OR
  4. it can be used in place of "on the other hand."

"Than" is used as a comparative, as in "more than" or "better than."

INTERNET HINTS & TIPS

CHANGING YOUR ISP

So you decided to change ISP's and get a new one. How about all the files you have from the previous one—they are just sitting on your hard drive taking up space. Your absolute best bet is to see if they have an uninstall program—select the program you used to install it in the first place, and it might have an uninstall option.

Can you remove it via the Control Panel? Go to START—select SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL—Click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, and you will see programs that can be removed—select the one you wish to remove and click the ADD/REMOVE button.

If you have no luck there, right click the icon on your desktop where you would start the application, then click PROPERTIES. This will show you the folder where the programresides. Using Windows Explorer you can then delete them.

The best way to do it is either through an uninstall program or via the Control Panel. There may be a few hidden programs you don't get otherwise.

"Time Boosters: To-Do List Do's" By: Mari Peckham

Used in conjunction with your calendar, a To-Do list can be an extremely valuable tool to help you take control of your time. A To-Do list gives you a one-glance look at everything that you need, or would like, to accomplish in your day.

I would be lost without my To-Do list. Every time that I check off an item, whether it is a large project or a letter that I want to write, I feel more in control of my time and my life.

Other people feel that To-Do lists are an ineffective waste of time. But, when used correctly, these simple lists can:

*Minimize "mind clutter" by keeping track of all of the odds and ends.

*Keep trivia that needs to be taken care of visible.

*Improve your memory by the mental activity of writing everything down.

*Help you prioritize your activities.

Suzanne Frisse, a well-known seminar leader and trainer, points out in her seminars that when she is feeling lazy about organizing a list, she reminds herself that starting work without a To-Do list is like driving from her home in Kansas City to Yellowstone Park without a road map. She would probably get there eventually, but would waste a lot of time and gas in the process. "Working without a list leaves me without a clear direction to my day," she advises. "I end the day exhausted, scratching my head and saying 'I know I was busy, but I seem to have nothing to show for all that activity!'"

ARRANGING YOUR TO-DO LIST

1. Quickly think through all of your daily tasks and write them down. Don't forget the trivial items!

2. Group your tasks by using a letter code, as follows:

  1. A = "Must do" items
  2. B = "Should do" items
  3. C = "Could do" items

3. Prioritize each group by adding a number next to the letter.

Example:
  1. A1 Finish article for Themestream column
  2. A2 Add new classifieds to Advertise_Online
  3. B1 Go to bank
  4. B2 Mail bills
  5. B3 Laundry
  6. C1 Call Mom
  7. C2 Do filing

Tasks should be completed in the order of their importance, unless they have a time attached, such as a meeting or class. Use quick items in the B and C class to fill in. Your goal is to complete all A items, and as many B and C items as possible. Be realistic with your time constraints and priorities though. Not everything is an A item today, even if it is very important.

Items that you do not get done should be added to another To-Do list at the end of the day. This keeps all of your undone tasks active. When you fail to get something done on one day, mark it with an arrow and the date that you have added it to.

Example: -->1/3 C2 Do filing

By moving certain tasks, keep in mind that it may change the priority codes attached to them. Although "Do filing" may be a C2 today, in several days, it may move up to a B or even an A class item!

On the other hand, if you complete all of your tasks for today, you can always look ahead and get some of the things done that you have planned for future days! I love the feeling of being ahead of myself, and use the time that I've saved in the future on something fun for ME!

If you have your calendar in a spiral bound binder, as I recommended in the article on calendar usage, then add your daily To-Do lists in the appropriate area of your binder. Some people like to keep them in their own section. I always found that I worked most effectively when my To-Do lists are a part of my daily calendar area.

Get in the habit of adding tasks and appointments to your daily To-Do lists as you make them, but hold off on prioritizing items until the day before when you have a clear idea of everything that you need to accomplish.

Here are a few quick tips to get you headed in the right direction:

*Break large projects into several manageable tasks that can be completed over a period of time. This keeps you from becoming overwhelmed.

*Dr Joanna Good, a psychologist and therapist recommends getting started by doing a small task or a little bit of a larger one. "This tends to motivate you to continue because it gives you the important feeling that your list is working for you."

*Don't let LIST-MAKING take the place of DOING! Taking too much time preparing your list, without any action, is a big time waster.

The more that you learn to embrace these time-boosting habits, the more control you gain over your time and your life. This control allows you the incredible sense of well-being that being on top of everything allows you!

INSPIRATION

THE STAGES OF PRAYER

1) Worship and praise the Lord! Sing to Him songs of praise, and glorify His name! Love Him, adore Him! Lift Him up and thank Him!

2) Thank Him for so beautifully, so willingly, so unselfishly, so givingly, yielding Himself up to suffer so much pain and agony that rightfully belonged to us, as He paid our debt and brought to the ultimate demonstration that wonderful scripture, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

3) Thank Him for all your earthly blessings. Bless His Holy Name and all His creation. Ask Him to bless you and all you care about. Present your petitions (requests) to Him FERVENTLY—if it is important enough to ask God for, then you should feel PASSIONATELY about it! And ask with a pure heart for Him to help you to use your blessings for His glory. Then release your requests to Him, and believe that He will begin bringing them about in accordance with His timing, according to your measure of faith and trust in his ability to do so.

Do not invalidate your requests with doubt. You must believe to be able to receive. It is His desire to provide for you abundantly, but He will not violate His own laws of provision. As a parent, you cannot have wishy-washy rules for your children and expect anything but chaos to result in both your life and theirs.

You must say what you mean and mean what you say. As you sow, so shall you reap. God has set down His rules for His children, and He enforces them impartially, as He is no respecter of persons. Rom 2:11

4) Ask Him to forgive your sins. And then forgive all those whom you need to forgive. Do it from the heart, releasing all anger, bitterness, and resentment—indeed, even remembrance of the deeds, just as Jesus does for us. Loose them and let them go forever, or else we will be bound to them in heaven as on earth! Matthew 16:19

5) Die to the flesh. Crucify it by putting down all lust, pride, and pleasure. Get the eyes of your mind directed solely to Jesus. Feel the pain and agony of the cross. Invite Him into your heart.

6) Quiet the mind. Recall the experience of His Presence—sense it and let it be, as the tears release you fully yielded to His Spirit.

7) Drink in the Spirit, eat the Bread of Life. Receive Him—commune with God. Bask in His glorious Presence. Stay as long as you can, continuing to love and adore Him. Be still and know. Psalms 46:10
