Greetings, one and all! Remember the movie, "The Long Hot Summer"? Well, this one doesn't seem all that long, but it surely is hot . . . and dry, I might add. First, we were seeing rain on a daily basis for many, many weeks, and now it's just the opposite. But you know what "they" say: If you don't like the weather in Ohio, just stick around for ten minutes, and maybe it will be to your liking!
This Summer is absolutely flying by . . . and we've yet to go swimming one time! Even our Sundays anymore seem to be taken up by this, that, or the other. Earlier in life, I had envisioned my later years being spent surrounded by family and grandchildren most of the time, my having been long since retired. Well, let me tell you, that is a far cry from the way it is!
Even so, we are so very blessed, I have no reason to complain. And it just keeps getting better and better all the time, so I just thank God every day, not only for all the blessings that we already have, but for those coming down the pike. Hope you feel the same! :-)
Finally, happy birthday today to my 43-year-old twins, Chris and Cory!

Results of last issue's contest, when the question was — What is currently the tallest habitable structure in the world? The answer — The tallest man-made structure is the Burj Dubai, a skyscraper under construction in Dubai that reached 636 m (2,087 ft) in height on May 12, 2008. By April 7, 2008 it had been built higher than the KVLY-TV mast in North Dakota, U.S.A., which is the tallest complete structure at 628.8 m (2,063 ft). Guyed lattice towers such as this mast had held the world height record since 1954. The Warsaw radio mast in Poland, raised to 646.38 m (2,121 ft) in 1974 and destroyed in 1991, remains the tallest structure ever built. No one entered, so no one won this week!

A Healthier You
Following right along with our mathematical addition/subtraction lifestyle changes, this week we're going to be eliminating anything that has a label with ingredients that you cannot pronounce or identify, and also lists of ingredients that are overly long.
Just ask yourself, if I were going to make this item in my own kitchen, would I add this stuff? If not, then you don't need to be eating it!
And it doesn't matter if the label says that it's (all) natural or naturally derived. Members of Congress are bombarded all the time by lobbyists with bribes and pay-offs to allow the manufacturers they represent to use certain words indicating that their products have not been bastardized when, in fact, their products are anything but! (Sorry, but the filters will not allow me to use the words in this article, or else the whole ezine will be kicked in your junk folder.)

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except
numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or
Miss White America, and see what happens . . . Jesse Jackson would be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain, so you can leave the countries you were born in to come here and disrespect ours.
I think the police should have every right to shoot you if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the words "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

Run for the Door
A mental hospital was critically overcrowded. The doctor decides to get all the patients seated in one large room to conduct a test to see how many they discharge that day.
At the front of the room the doctors took some chalk and drew a full size door on a blackboard and offered an ice cream to any patient who could open the door.
There was a mad rush for the door with the patients scratching and clawing at the door and the handle.
The doctors were disappointed, until they noticed a single patient who remained in his chair and was quietly chuckling to himself as he watched his fellow patients.
Encouraged that at least one patient could be discharged today, the doctors asked him why he wasn't trying to open the door.
The patient, who could no longer contain his laughter, shouted, "I've got the key!"

How to Choose a Web Design Company
by Alicia Harper
On the Internet today, there are many people who call themselves web designers or web design companies. Some people do it for fun, as a hobby or part-time. Web designers who design full-time are the way to go.
Someone who does web design part-time tends not to take it as seriously as someone who does it for a living. There are also people who do web design, who have no formal training. Make sure your web designer has some formal training from a recognized school. People who are self taught, although I applaud them for doing it, have relied on the Internet for all their information, and as you know, information on the Internet can be inaccurate.
The U.S.—and U.S. Christians in particular—should be the best friend that Israel has! Interesting information about God's blessing on Israel below.
Facts About Israel
Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's population, can lay claim to the following:
The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.
Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel.
The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel. Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel.

The technology for the A.O.L. Instant Messenger and ICQ was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.
Israel has the fourth largest air force in the world (after the U.S., Russia, and China). In addition to a large variety of other aircraft, Israel's air force has an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16's. This is the largest fleet of F-16 aircraft outside of the U.S.
According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most impenetrable flight security. U.S. officials now look to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.
Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined.
Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.
Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.
Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin—109 per 10,000 people—as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.
In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of start-up companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of start-up companies than any other country in the world, except the U.S. (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).
With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and start-ups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world—apart from the Silicon Valley, U.S. Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U.S.
Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.
Israel has the highest average living standard in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the U.K.
On a per capita basis, Israel has the largest number of biotech start-ups.
Twenty-four percent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees—ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland—and twelve percent hold advanced degrees.
Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.
In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews, at risk in Ethiopia, to safety in Israel.
When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world's second elected female leader in modern times.
When the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day—and saved three victims from the rubble.
Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship—and the highest rate among women and among people over 55—in the world.
Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was achieved in an area considered mainly desert.
Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.
Medicine . . . Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.
An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U. S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.
Israel's Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.
Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U.S., over 70 in Japan, and fewer than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions, Israel places first in this category as well.
A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the ClearLight device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet, light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct—all without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.
An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large scale solar-powered, and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California's Mojave desert.
Israel has accomplished all of the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction—and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other country on earth.

Use Failures as Opportunites to Grow
by Whitney Hopler
Here are some ways you can use failures as opportunities to
grow:
Live for God.
Live to please God, not other people. God's opinion is the
only one that ultimately matters.
Be Real.
Realize that if you're faithfully doing what God wants you
to do—even if you're not accomplishing much right now—He
considers you as successful because you're faithful.
Don't Let Failure Shock You.
No one is immune to it. Failure is a normal part of life
when you take risks in order to grow. Admit your failures,
and accept them.
Don't Dwell On It!
Rather than dwelling on feelings of guilt and shame, confess
your mistakes to God, and ask Him to forgive you. Accept the
unconditional love that God always offers you, as well as
the grace He gives you to grow.
Never Give Up!
Don't ever let failure keep you from trying new things.
Understand God.
Understand that God may or may not choose to let you know
why an effort of yours has failed. But rather than focusing
on what you see as unfair circumstances, focus on God's
character. Know that He will always act in your best
interests, and trust Him to lead you through each day in
love.
Pray First.
Before undertaking a new endeavor, pray about God's will. Do
you have a sense of peace that God is genuinely leading you
to pursue it? Have you actively listened to the Holy
Spirit's voice?
Assess Your Motives.
Assess your motives when you consider pursuing a new
endeavor. Honestly determine whether you're motivated to
pursue it out of love for God, or because you expect or
hope to receive some type of personal gain. If your effort
doesn't result in personal gain, would you consider that
effort a failure? Strive to be a servant; if you do, every
effort you invest in will be successful in God's eyes.
Think About It.
Think about how a particular failure can help you understand
yourself better than before, and push you closer to Christ
than you had been before failing. Ask God what He wants you
to learn from the failure.
Don't Isolate Yourself.
Don't isolate yourself from others after you've failed.
Embrace comfort and encouragement from people who care about
you.
Don't Be Gloomy.
When failure has left you feeling gloomy, remember some
recent times when you celebrated God's work in your life.
Realize that failure is only temporary. Know that because
of Christ's resurrection, you have a living hope from which
you can draw your strength in the future.
The sign of an intelligent people is their ability
to control emotions by the application of reason.

When Everything is a Miracle
Marlin Perkins, long-time host of television's "Wild Kingdom," spent
most of his life trying to put people on a first-name basis with
animals. His wife Carol wanted to marry him so badly that she never
let on that she did not fully share his passion for wildlife.
Soon after their marriage they went to central Africa. She tried
valiantly not to complain during the long expedition, but one night
she was exhausted. She said she wasn't hungry and just wanted to go
to bed. So she undressed and reached for her pillow, when out from
underneath crawled a huge lizard that ran up her chest and down her
arm.
Carol started to scream and couldn't stop. She was so tired of being
brave. Marlin came running, and after he saw that Carol wasn't hurt,
he put his arm around her and said, "Honey, think of how lucky you
were to see him up close."
I'm with Carol. I would find it difficult to appreciate the
experience. But I am enthralled by Marlin's awe and enthusiasm for
all things alive. He was able to marvel at the wonder of creatures
and never lost his passion for animals. All living things, in their
own way, were beautiful and splendid to this irrepressible lover of
creation.
You may not choose to share your bed with a lizard, but do you find
this world an exciting and wondrous place? Do you marvel at nature's
handiwork? Do you want to "see it up close"? Does a spectacular
sunset, the smell of seawater, that first spring flower, or the soft
fall of snow soothe your soul? In short, are you excited about life
and this magnificent world in which we live?
That amazing man, Albert Einstein, once said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." But only one is the way of joy.
